INFANT FEEDING BASICS 〰️ 🥛Contrary to popular belief, after birth, your milk never exactly "comes in.” In fact, it just increases in volume. By the time you birth, you’ve already had milk (aka colostrum) being produced in the the breast/chest since between 16 to 22 weeks of pregnancy, and that colostrum is enough to sustain a newborn in the first few days of life.
In the first 48 hours, a newborn only needs about 1 teaspoon per breast/chest each feed. Why? Because their bellies are about the size of a shooter marble, which means they can only handle tiny, but frequent, servings. Whether you’re #breastfeeding, #chestfeeding, or #bottlefeeding, be prepared to feed your little one anywhere from 10 times a day or more every day for those first weeks.
